2023 Kokoda Trail Walk
During November I will be joining the team from the Black Dog Institute to trek the 165 kilometre Kokoda Trail that links the north and south coasts of Papua New Guinea.
I will spend nine days walking in the footsteps of the brave Australian men and women who served along the Trail during World War 2. The walk will traverse rocky mountain terrain and streams, tropical rainforest and jungles and visit remote indigenous villages.
My purpose for participating in the trek is to raise awareness about mental illness. Current statistics in Australia show that 2 in 5 or 44% of Australians between the ages of 16 and 85 have experienced mental health conditions in their life.
My hope is to enable conversations about mental health in the communities in which we live and work and to support the Black Dog Institute in raising funds which support their programs that provide help, hope and understanding to people affected by mental illness.
