Successfully completed!!

Saturday 18th Nov
Happily Jake and I and all of our amazing Black Dog team are now safely back in Port Moresby after finishing yesterday at Owers Corner at the end of the track.
It was tough, there’s no doubt about that.
Fantastic though, ….the  landscapes, the local people and especially our incredible supporters from South Sea Horizons who guided us along the track with such great care.
It’s nearly four years since Jake and I signed up to do this so it’s wonderful to finally get it done.
Thank you to all of you who have supported us and our cause to raise funds to support really important mental health research done by the Black Dog Institute.
Thanks again and if anyone would still like to donate, we would be very grateful 🙏🏻

Last big training walk-The Crinoline, 2 days consecutively.

Friday 3rd Nov
We’ll be starting the Kokoda in a week, so tapering now until Jake and I fly up in 6 days. Getting excited now.

Our final Bunnings BBQ Fundraiser!

Saturday 16th Sep
Tomorrow on Sunday September 17th Jake and I with help from our partners and friends will be manning the bbq outside Traralgon Bunnings, so pop in for a sausage, a cold soft drink and to buy some tickets in our awesome raffle!
See ya there!!

2023 begins

Saturday 4th Mar
Many of you will be aware that 3 years ago, my newly graduated doctor son, Jake and I had committed to walk The Kokoda Track later that year to raise money for mental health and to challenge ourselves. Almost immediately along came the Covid 19 pandemic to shut it down.  For a time it appeared that it wouldn’t go ahead but now it’s on again and time for me to get organised, get fit and fundraise.  Three years on and older brings the added health challenge for me of atrial fibrillation which developed last year.  With great medical care I’ve learned that it shouldn’t stop me as long as I modify my lifestyle a bit, lose a little weight and importantly get fitter later in the year.
Thanks for reading our fundraising page and if you have the capacity, consider supporting our efforts to raise money to support mental health and the wonderful Black Dog Institute.
Thankyou 🙏

A bit of background - Jakob

Friday 22nd Jan
So Dad has spent a little while asking me to write down some more on our page as to why we're doing this.

Really this issue goes back further, but I guess my struggles with mental health crystallised in 2013.
I was struggling at university. Feeling isolated, I wasn't taking care of myself, I had a poor relationship with Dad, and to cap it off I'd just been dumped.
I took stock of how bad I felt, and realised that I had to at least change one small thing.
So I called my Dad.

He came straight down to Melbourne that day, and we started to talk.
We talked about how I was feeling.
We talked about the distance in our relationship
And we talked about what I needed to get myself in a better state of mind.

Since then, Dad has been there for me every step of the way.
As I've learned to manage my depression, to institute better habits, and downsize my own personal Black Dog.
In doing so, our relationship as a father and son has never been stronger, and I'd like to think that I'm there to support him too nowadays.

Because of this, the Black Dog Kokoda 2021 Trip resonates with us so much, it speaks to the challenges we've gone through together, and the teamwork it has taken along the way.

Just as Dad has been there for me since that year, so too will we be there for each other on the Trail, and as we raise funds for The Black Dog Institute.

Please don't hesitate to donate, to like, to share, or simply to consider how you can support those around you.

Thank you to my Sponsors

This donation is in memory of my nephew Daniel, who died by suicide in 1998. Thank you both for your wonderful efforts to support mental health research. God bless you both and I wish you safety and success on your Kokoda Track walk. My father served and was injured there during 1942 so your cause resonates with me in more ways than one. Brenda
