Kokoda 2023

Help me create a mentally healthier world!

I'm standing up to join Team Black Dog to turn ground breaking research into life saving action.

Mental illness affects 1 in 5 Australians every year, with the most common being depression and anxiety. Mental illness doesn’t discriminate. It affects people from all walks of life — individuals, families, workplaces and communities.

I'm inspired by the work of Black Dog Institute and want to support them by raising money as part of my participation in Black Dog Institute's Hike for Mental Health: Kokoda 2023.

Please help me help them by giving whatever you can.

The more people that know about Black Dog Institute, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot to so many!

In my Grandfathers footsteps …

Thursday 19th Jan

Hey guys .. so something exciting is coming my way .. and I want to share it with you. So some of you know and some of you don’t, but my mother was adopted out at birth and after 77 years finally found out who her true biological father was, a soldier in WW2, fighting one of the most notorious trails .. shaggy ridge aka Kokoda ..and  that’s when my dream started .. it’s interesting how we can manifest things into real happenings and low and behold a school mum I’ve know for years just happened to have done a trek in Tasmania and was joining another .. yes you guessed it, Kokoda !! Without a second thought I paid my deposit and now I’m on a journey to achieve a dream, only a new dream but a dream nonetheless!! So with the help of The Black dog Institute I’m well and truly on my way to walk the steps of my Granddad for a good cause. My newly found biological uncle Mark, told me this story of a young man from Yass came into his Chiropractic practice in turner some years back and said he would not be alive today if it was not for his father ( my grandfather)

My uncle questioned him about that statement he replied, after confirming some name details of my grandfather, that during WW2 while in New Guinea his father was shot/wounded and due to most of their fellow solders being killed by the Japanese his father ( my grandfather) carried him back to safety along the now known Kokoda track. My grandfather came back with his demons ( and subsequently my mumma has always carried these demons with bouts of depression due to the adoption, and the feeling of being rejected) and that’s why The black dog is a tremendous organization to get behind and support. Mental health is real and at some point in our lives we will all experience it, or know someone who has/ is. Be it mild or severe it’s a tough road.

So I ask that you help me reach my goal with a massive big PLEASE and THANK YOUx love Soph 🥰😘

PS: On a good note since Mum found out she has living siblings, my fore mentioned uncle Mark ( her brother) and a sister Rosslyn, my mum has never been as settled as she is, now she has the closure and found her family 💗
