Raising Awareness and Funding for Mental Health in Construction

Mental illness doesn’t discriminate. It affects 1 in 5 Australians every year with symptoms like depression and anxiety. 

For people working in the construction sector, the statistics are even more alarming. 
  • Men working in construction have one of the highest suicide rates compared to other industries.
  • While suicide rates in the construction industry are declining, they remain double the rate of the general working population.
  • 88% of construction workers in Australia are male, and every second day in the construction industry, a man commits suicide.
The impact can be devastating, not only for those living with it, but for those around them. 

So, we're doing our bit to change that.

The team at RAM Equipment are making a commitment to raise $50,000 for the Black Dog Institute by 30/6/2023. 

RAM is using a brand - new 14T black excavator - to raise awareness for invisible illnesses. We're calling it our "Black Dog Excavator", featuring a QR code that links to the Black Dog Institute fundraising page, where every dollar raised will support crucial mental health research and support services that help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide. 

You'll find the Black Dog Excavator on construction sites across South Australia and you can follow the Black Dog Excavator by following our social media channels. We hope this exposure will not only raise awareness, but will also raise funds to help bring these statistics down. 

We also hope that RAM's Black Dog Excavator  helps to make people working in construction aware of the helpful resources available to them, to help deal with tough and stressful situations in support of positive mental health.
