Fundraiser in Memory of Simon James Brockwell
Dad was a brilliant man in some respects, but a complex character. He battled with several mental health challenges over his lifetime, and his unfortunate combination of high intelligence and high stubbornness meant he did not get the necessary professional help to work through these issues.
Reflecting on it all, you can't change the external stimuli, but you can change the internal reaction.
It is what it is.
Messages, flowers, gifts, and so forth are all received with a grateful sentiment, but if I can ask you to do one thing that maximises tangible impact, make a donation to the Black Dog Institute to help improve research into understanding, preventing, and treating mental health disorders, and ultimately reduce cases like my dad's.
