Help me create a mentally healthier world

I’m standing up to join team Black Dog. I’m Amelia Chambers. I live in a small town called Cootamundra and I am seventeen. Thankyou for being apart of my Journey and story.

I’ve struggled dealing with my mental health for nearly all of my teenage years. In all honesty I can’t remember life without facing a challenge with this side of my health.

*Trigger warning*

Significantly my mental health has declined severely this year resulting in multiple hospital visits as I became uncontrollable not only to myself but too my family. I was struggling and didn’t understand what was going on. I blamed myself for the way I was acting and feeling when in reality i was completely wrong. I ended up admitted too Northside clinic this year in March too try and receive the help I know I needed. While in admission I relapsed the second day I was their and was kept for only three weeks as they saw improvement. I was released and was doing fine for the first week until I relapsed again and was admitted into hospital. I was drove by myself in an ambulance too the closest city. I felt as though all my hard work was back too the beginning. I felt no growth had been evident.

But than i realised sitting in that hospital bed by myself at 2 am in the morning in a city nowhere near my family that I needed to make a change or their aren’t going to be anymore second chances. If I didn’t make a change their would not only be a grieving family but a grieving community of people wishing they could have done things differently.

My journey has only just begun. I’m only 17. Somethings are out of my control and I’m still learning that. I am still growing, still improving and reaching out for help when the day becomes a little too much for me too handle.

In the month of September I will be running 200km aiming to raise $15,000 for the Black Dog Institute too support them in their research into the field of mental health. I’m doing this too spread awareness of the affects of mental health on a person and show my support too those diagnosed or undiagnosed illness.

I am also doing this show my support too the girls at Northside who supported me through that journey even though they were struggling with personal issues.

I hope my story helps just one other person reach out and receive the help they need even when they don’t feel worthy enough.
