Life Drawing Fundraiser
On the 14th of March 2023, my dear friend, Liam Martin lost his battle with mental illness and died by suicide. He was 35 years old, thriving in his career as an Emergency Services call taker for Police 000, a creator, a writer and most of all, the brightest and most beautiful soul I have ever known.
One in 5 of us will experience symptoms of mental illness in any given year. In Australia that is around 5 million people, roughly 60% of these people will not seek help.
One of the last conversations Liam and I shared was a discussion about attending a life drawing class together. I want to honour his love for the arts through this fundraiser. The money raised will be donated to The Black Dog Institute. They lead the charge in suicide prevention and research into mental illness and are the only medical research institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan.
On Friday the 8th of December, I will be holding a life drawing fundraiser, aiming to raise a minimum of $6,000 for research into suicide prevention and development of mental health services in Australia.
This amount raised can have a significant impact, with the funds directed to where they are needed most (i.e. clinics, research projects, community education programs, online mental health tools and training apps) on a priority/needs basis.
Join me in supporting those who are struggling and in turn honouring the loved ones we have lost.
