Hi,
My name is Bec and today I'm standing up to join Team Black Dog to turn ground breaking research into life saving action.
We all know someone thats affected by mental illness, our loved ones, friends, colleagues, maybe even you....
My goal is to raise $1000.00, i plan on spending the month talking about mental health via my social platforms and if i'm successful i pledge to shave my head on april 2nd!
Mental illness affects 1 in 5 Australians every year, with the most common being depression and anxiety. Mental illness doesn’t discriminate.

The beginning
Monday 2nd Mar
My story begins around Six years ago...
Two back to back hip reconstructions landed me with chronic siatica nerve impingment. I spent 18months in daily debilitating pain, some days i couldnt get off the floor, all i could do was drag myself through each day, i became a husk of the person i was. My life turned upside down, the nerve blocking medications shattered my already breaking mental stablility.
On my birthday i collapsed and couldnt get off the floor from shear mental exhaustion and depression, i was giving up, honestly suicide felt like a welcoming relief. At the same time as this my nearest and dearest was suffering with PTSD, which caused major depression and anxiety for him. Times were very bleak
There was this little voice in my soul that told me to get up and fight. I promised myself i wouldnt give up, i could beat this. I built my life back up from rock bottom. Years of physio, psychologist appointments to learn meditation as a pain managment method, hard work, dedication, love and support.
The final stage of my journey is to give back, to be a voice for those that cant stand up yet, for those that dont know where to start and to raise money for research into mental illness in hope to help find better treatments and support.

As the finale watch me shave my head live on instagram (2nd april 8pm) as a way to stand strong, vulnerable and raw in the name of better mental health awareness and research.
