Help me make it meaningful
Mental illness doesn’t discriminate – it affects 1 in 5 Australians every year with symptoms like depression and anxiety. The impact can be devastating, not only for those living with it, but for those around them.
Today I turn 21, so I decided I wanted to run 21km.
In the last few months I personally have hit a challenging time in my own life. It as been overwhelming and scary not knowing what was going on. It hits me in waves and feels like I am getting dumped with every wave. This has not only been a challenge for me, but my family, girl friend and my friends. At the moment the waves have calmed, but still get rough. With their love and support I have not found the perfect wave, but I know it's out there.
I am not doing this just for donations, it's more about awareness and understanding, so we can all be there to help out when needed. Here are some ways you can help without donating;
Checking in with a loved one, ask if "you're okay"
Become aware, through any of the many organisations. E.g. black dog institute
Try to keep a healthy routine ie; sleep, diet, fitness
Lastly be open to catching the waves, you never know which one will be the perfect ride....
