In loving memory of our dear friend, Dinath.

By Andy Chen Join Me

In loving memory of our dear friend, Dinath.

Dinath was truly a star in our lives who brought a smile to everyone's faces, his many friends a testament to that. He was always there to help others, offering support, laughter, and kindness. But tragically, when he needed help the most, no one knew. He carried his struggles silently, never wanting to burden anyone with what he was going through.

In honour of Dinath and others like him, we are raising awareness about the importance of mental health and suicide prevention. Every contribution helps shine a light in someone’s darkness.

He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.

Dinath, it’s hard to find the words to express how much you meant to me. From the days we spent at Leeming together, you’ve been a constant presence in my life, even after we went our separate ways. Those online chess matches weren’t just games; they were a way for us to stay connected, sharing laughs and memories no matter the distance. You were there for me through thick and thin, celebrating my highest achievements and offering support during my lowest moments. Your friendship was a gift, a source of strength and comfort that I will always cherish. The memories we made together will forever hold a special place in my heart. Though you’re no longer with us, your spirit and the impact you had on my life will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, my friend. You will be deeply missed.

I had the pleasure of teaching Dinath Chemistry at our tuition for the past two years, and his loss is deeply felt by myself and his friends. From the very first lesson, Dinath stood out. Not only was he hardworking, but he also brought dedication and kindness to every session. He always gave 110% and it was an absolute pleasure teaching him from day one. He was also incredibly intelligent and understood tricky concepts quickly. In fact, after our first lesson, I sent his mum a message saying, “Clever child.” I’ll personally miss him deeply. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time. May his soul rest in peace. Thank you for organising this fundraiser. I urge all students to take the time out of their mental health. A simple walk with your favourite music, some deep breathing, or talking to a trusted friend or adult can help greatly. I also know that ATAR pressure can build up at times, and my lines are always open (as someone who’s been through that). If anyone does want to chat, please reach out.

Dinath, you were the first friend I made back in kindergarten. From the first day of primary school to the last, you were there, and we made countless memories. Every birthday party, every Halloween, every playdate. You were my best friend back then, and though we've drifted apart these last few years, I still consider you one of my closest friends. I will cherish all of those memories, and perhaps in another life we will make many more together. Thank you for everything, and rest in peace.

I've known Dinath for so long. I first met him in pre primary and this guy was an absolute monkey even back then (and I mean that in a loving way). Then as the years went on we grew closer as friends and eventually, somehow, ended up in the same high school and was I glad. I would always see everyone with her primary school friends but none of mine came with me to my high school, so when Dinath moved I was so excited. I remember showing him around on his first day and introducing him to everyone. Over the years I only grew closer and closer with him and made some memorable moments in all of our different classes. From doing no work in French to having yap sessions with our yr 10 science teacher, it was never a dull moment when he was in the room. Dinath was one of those people that brought vibrance and life to whereever he was regardless of whether he knew who was in the room or not. The fact that he would be there meant it would be a good time. Dinath my old friend I hope you're doing well wherever you are. I hope you're happy and you know that we all love and appreciate you and miss you. I'm tremendously sorry I couldn't be there for you when you needed it most and I'm sorry I couldn't help you more. Rest in Peace old friend

Dinath was the first person I knew at RSHS. We both joined on the same day, Term 3 Week 2, Wednesday, 2021. I could tell from the get-go that he was going to be a great person and great guy, and he proved to be just that. He was always the nicest guy, always smiling and trying his best to cheer others up. We created a lot of memories together, going from watching the 22 FIFA WC together all the way to laughing at Sri Lanka being bowled out for 50 in the 2023 CWC. It's a shame to see you go. Out of the many things I'll miss about your presence, the one I'll miss most is your cheery personality and the goofy dynamic you had with Yutao. Sorry, I couldn't be there for you like you were there for me on so many occasions. Dinath, you'll always have a special place in my heart as my day one. May you Rest In Peace Dinath Gamage

I played cricket with Dinath for 2 years. Then we were just friends for the last year. But I first met Dinath the season before I played with him. A cricket game. My team was fielding and he was batting. It came down to 2 off the last ball. Somehow Dinath managed to find both runs off of what should have been a dot. He won the game for his team. I know it's a small story, but its a reminder of just how talented he was. He was definitely someone I'm proud to have known. Sorry that we didn't know. Miss you buddy. RIP.

Man, you were an awesome friend to be around with. I never knew it would have to come to this. We all knew you when you first came to this school, and what a journey it has been. I would never expected myself ever to be so close to you. and the memories that we made alongside each other. I really miss your singing, (The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Blinding Lights will always be reminded of you) And your jokes and teasing that we make for each other. You were the most funny monkey that I knew of, But despite the amount of times you annoyed me (esp. in class) we really never wanted you gone. Thank you for all you've done in my life, and the things you have done in others. Thank you for just bringing us all together. I honestly don't think I would've enjoyed school as much, without you. And it's a shame to see you go. I am sorry that I didn't reach out to you more often. I only wish that I could've been there. That we could of hanged out more together and created more memories. You will never be lost in my heart. And I will treasure every moment that I have had with you forever. I am just glad to ever know you. Thank you Dinath.

Dinath, I first met you August 12th 2021. I messaged you on Discord, and went to go find you in Break 2. Little did I know that 2 years after that, you would become my closest friend in Year 10. I still remember at the start of 2023 when we would switch between different groups. Then we slowly got the boys together, creating our friend group. Thank you so much for helping bring together this wonderful group of people. Without them, life would've been much less bright. Thank you for giving me my first real friend group. I know we may have drifted apart slightly this year, but I will never forget Year 10. You were the first person I could comfortably confide in. I wish I could've been there for you when you needed help the most. I'm sorry. Rest in peace, Dinath Gamage.
