Brads shaving it off

Help me make it meaningful

prioritizing men's mental health is essential for promoting well-being, reducing stigma, and improving outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.

Mental illness doesn’t discriminate – it affects 1 in 5 Australians every year with symptoms like depression and anxiety. The impact can be devastating, not only for those living with it, but for those around them.

That’s why I’m hosting my very own event, to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute. Every dollar raised will support crucial mental health research and support services that help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

Help me create a meaningful moment for mental health, all for a great cause.

Healthy mind

Saturday 16th Mar

In a world where societal standards often dictate our worth, it's crucial to prioritize mental health and self-acceptance above all else.

Recently, I made a decision that not only symbolized a physical change but also marked a significant step in my journey towards embracing who I am, both inside and out.

For years, I've grown a beard or goatee that became somewhat of a security blanket for me. It served as a shield, hiding insecurities and providing a sense of comfort. However, beneath the facade of facial hair lay deeper struggles with self-image and body acceptance.

In a moment of clarity, I realized that my attachment to my beard was more than just a preference—it was a reflection of my fear of judgment and rejection. It was a coping mechanism, masking the vulnerability I felt about my appearance.

Yet, I also recognized that true self-acceptance doesn't come from hiding behind layers of insecurity. It comes from embracing every aspect of oneself, flaws and all. So, with a mix of nerves and determination, I decided to shave off my beard.

Being body shamed is never easy. Whether it's subtle remarks or outright criticism, the impact on one's mental health can be profound. It's a reminder of the relentless pressure to conform to arbitrary standards of beauty and masculinity.

But through it all, I've come to realize that the opinions of others hold no power over my sense of self-worth. My journey towards self-acceptance is ongoing, and I refuse to let anyone else dictate how I should feel about my body.

In sharing my story, I hope to encourage others to prioritize their mental health and embrace their uniqueness. Whether it's shaving off a beard, dyeing your hair, or simply being unapologetically to yourself.

It's important to remember that everyone's journey with mental health is unique, and there is no shame in seeking help.

Whether someone is struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, lost someone unexpectedly, been through a divorce, financial hardship.

They deserve compassion, understanding, and support.

Exploring hobbies can be incredibly beneficial for mental health, providing a source of joy, relaxation, and fulfillment.

The key is to choose activities that resonate with you, bring you joy and give you head space from the things weighing you down mentally.

By incorporating hobbies into your routine, you can enhance your overall well-being and cultivate a healthier mindset.
