Help me make it meaningful
Just over a year ago I was diagnosed with severe depression, anxiety, an eating disorder and flagged as being a suicide risk. I used to believe that depression was like a ghost. If you didn’t believe in it, how could it affect you? How wrong I was.
Often when I have disclosed this, the reaction is “You don’t look like you are depressed.” Which is the struggle with mental illnesses. One year later, with regular psychology, support from friends / family, and lots of hard work on myself, I now live a much happier and healthier life.
By being vulnerable and sharing parts of my story, I hope to further support the Black Dog Institute in providing support services to those in need and to further break down the barriers of mental illness.
This year, on the 21st of April I will be running the ‘City of Newcastle Marathon’ as a mental and physical challenge for myself just 7 weeks after getting my tonsils out.
Any change you can spare goes a long way to supporting myself and those who are struggling with their own thoughts everyday. It’s also tax deductible!
