For the past six years, I have dedicated myself to annually fundraising for the Black Dog Institute, a cause that is profoundly personal and deeply meaningful to me.
The drive behind my commitment stems from the heartbreaking loss of my brother to suicide, an event that shattered my heart and left me feeling incomplete. A piece of me was lost that day, and the pain of his absence continues to resonate within me.
In addition to this devastating loss, I have also witnessed my beloved husband endure the relentless grip of PTSD, anxiety, and depression for over 13 years. This turmoil began after a traumatic incident where he had a gun put to the back of his head during a robbery. Watching him struggle, feeling utterly helpless as I didn't know how to alleviate his suffering, has been an excruciating experience.
My annual fundraiser is a tribute to these two incredible men whom I love with all my heart. It is a way to honor their battles and to support those who, like us, have faced the crushing weight of mental illness and loss. By raising funds for the Black Dog Institute, I aim to contribute to research, support, and awareness initiatives that can help prevent others from enduring similar heartaches.
This cause is not just a charity for me; it is a mission to remember my brother, support my husband, and stand in solidarity with all who have been touched by the relentless darkness of mental health struggles.
Join us for an unforgettable evening and help us make a difference.
