The what/why
This January, I’ll be riding solo for 1,900km with over 14,000m of climbing from Brisbane to Sydney and back in just 7 days (up to 10), to raise money for the Black Dog Institute, who support people struggling with mental health.
That’s around 270km per day (~190km if it takes the 10), the toughest challenge I’ve ever attempted. But compared to what many people go through every day with mental health battles, it’s like a grain of sand on the beach.
Mental health isn’t an “if”, it’s a “when”, almost everyone will face it at some point. It’s not about always being happy or sharing everything you feel, but about how you handle what life throws at you.
As a young man, I’ve seen how easy it is to suffer in silence. You can see a broken arm, but not how someone feels inside. That’s why I’ve chosen to support Black Dog Institute, who research, fund, and provide vital services for mental health.
Over the past few years, my own mental health has had its ups and downs. Having a few mates I can talk to, be without judgment, without fear, has made a massive difference.
This ride will be hard, but it’s for something far bigger than me or my bike. My goal is to raise $7000, and every bit of support helps, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this challenge.
