Jans Marathon!

By Janica Duncombe

Help me make it meaningful

Next weekend, I’ll be running the Gold Coast Marathon — not just for the physical challenge, but for something far more meaningful.

I’m raising funds for the Black Dog Institute, an organisation that’s close to my heart. They’re dedicated to research, education, and support for people affected by mental illness. Their work helps break down stigma, improve treatment, and bring hope to those who need it most — including people like me.

I’ve been living with complex PTSD for over 7 years. It’s been an incredibly tough journey, but thanks to awareness, access to information, and the support made possible by institutes like Black Dog, I’ve been able to find strength, understanding, and the tools to keep moving forward.

Mental health affects all of us, either personally or through someone we love. That’s why I believe it’s so important to raise funds and keep the conversation going. Running a marathon is no easy feat, and when I hit that brutal 35km mark, knowing I’m doing this for something bigger than myself will be the fuel that keeps me going.

If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me. Together, we can support those facing mental health challenges and help make a real difference.
