Dear June, Wayne and Rachael, we only just heard of the incredibly sad news of Bretts passing. We are deeply saddened by your loss. Brett was such a wonderful boy growing up in a caring and beautiful family. We cannot imagine how difficult the last months have been for you all. I am so incredibly saddened hearing of the loss of Brett. Last year we reconnected and were reminiscing on such a beautiful childhood we all had growing up on brougham street and how lucky we were. RIP Brett and my thoughts are with the entire Ruston family.

Dear Wayne June and Rachel, it’s never easy to find the words to express such sadness and grief at losing your beautiful boy; the Love Of Your life. Brett’s funeral was so incredibly moving and meaningful. I hope being surrounded by all your friends and family gave you some comfort.

His cool calm smile that greeted us each morning at the office, engaging conversation, he always had time for you. Brett's weekend adventuress were inspiring. He will live on in us all especially as we gaze at the sky at night.

Such a lovely person was Brett just like his mum. dad & sister. We will miss his lovely smile and I will miss his great hugs in pit lane at Sandown. It was a privilege to be part of the service at Rob Roy and we will think of Brett every time we go there. We have very fond memories of Brett, starting with his early days at Rob Roy with the drinks stall, and driving the MGBGTV8 with the trailer at working bees. He grew into a fine young man that everyone was proud to be associated with.

The loss of Brett has been emotionally devastating and tremendous to your family - and has certainly rocked the rest of us who have children especially when you loose your son at 28 years of age. So much life yet to live. It certainly "jogs" my thoughts of Matt - only two years older! Yesterday was such a special day, full of love and respect even some humor for Brett, yet delivered in a loving way that emphasized how much he was respected by people outside your immediate family. Judy & I spoke of how you arranged the farewell for Brett - how much love and information you gave us of his life. Also, how much respect was held for him. Judy & I wish you and your family love and the ability to move along eventually. You will never forget your son but your will live on with his wonderful adventures and all the fascinating things he accomplished in such a short time. Love & Sympathy from John & Judy Baragwanath.

Forever encouraging and supportive of anyone who was willing to step outside of their comfort zone and go adventuring, Im heart broken that I never got the chance to sit around a campfire with him doing what he loved. Sending all my love and condolences to June, Wayne and Rachael.

It's hard to know what to say during a time like this. I'm so sorry for your loss June, Wayne and Rachael. You don't need me to tell you how amazing a human Brett is. I know that Brett would want everyone to keep adventuring so that's what we will do and he will always be in our heart when climbing mountains whether using legs or two wheels. Brett I'm pleased you managed to make it over to see our place in between the last lockdowns. As always it was an adventure for you, you even got a love tap from the car behind you! Like always you took it in your stride and you were the one calming down the car driver when he was the one that hit you! You're a legend mate and you'll be sorely missed by everyone.

My sincerest condolences to the Rushton Family. I regret that I only had the pleasure of meeting the great man only once. As a fellow educator, we had so much to talk about & share in such a small moment that it was a shame when our conversation had to come to an end! (Chloe & Brett were to ride out to another adventure & our chatting was holding them up!!) - My promise to Brett is that I will always be there to keep Chloe in check & to lean on her head in his absence as her best friend for life.
