Help me make it meaningful
Hello everyone, on the last Saturday of June the 27th, my friend Ben and I are setting a challenge to run 100km for men’s mental health.
This isn’t just a physically demanding challenge; it’s also a mental one. I’m doing this to raise awareness about men’s mental health in Australia, which is particularly important to me as someone who has personally struggled with it. For anyone else who’s struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. It’s not weak to speak up; I’d much rather you reach out than keep it to yourself. Trust me, I know it’s a difficult thing to do, and I struggle with it myself.
While men are becoming better at recognising and seeking support for their mental health, unfortunately, many still don’t reach out. In fact, only 37% of men and boys seek support when they need it.
There are several reasons for this, but one is that men often bottle up their feelings instead of asking for support. For example, they might hesitate to confide in friends and family in case they’re perceived as ‘weak’ or ‘unmanly’.
When men handle significant problems on their own, they often escalate, making them worse. Early support can make all the difference and prevent this from happening.
