80 Days Dry and 200 km on the Trails

Help me make it meaningful

Mental illness doesn’t discriminate – it affects 1 in 5 Australians every year with symptoms like depression and anxiety. The impact can be devastating, not only for those living with it, but for those around them.

Blokes make up an average of 7 out of every 9 suicides everyday in Australia (BeyondBlue, 2023). The number of men who die each year is double the national road toll. Traditional ideas of masculinity are often viewed as the cause of this phenomenon (Staiger et al, 2020).

That’s why I’m getting active and raising funds for the Black Dog Institute - to support crucial mental health research and support services that help ALL Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

Help me create a meaningful moment for mental health as I work up a sweat, all for a great cause.

Please donate now. Thank you.

Forestville to Palm Beach

Monday 22nd Apr
On April 20th I ran from Forestville to Palm beach to Avalon. The highlight was Barrenjoey Lighthouse. The run costed me both of my legs and a pair of headphones which I assumed were waterproof!

Overall, it was an amazing experience and I could not see myself ever running close to a marathon in my life.

It was the perfect way to wrap up the running segment of my Fundraiser with 40 kms.

Run from Home to Opera House

Sunday 14th Apr
First run back after injury. Took things very slow but was able to get quite a distance of 23 kms from home to the Opera House

It felt good and was a much needed run. As I’ve only got 13 days left there will be a lot more work to be done!

9th April

Wednesday 10th Apr
I’ve got stuck into swimming. It seems so much harder than running and has the element of muscle fatigue, especially in the back.

I’m working on technique and pushing myself to further distances.

I swam 2 km for the first time on Saturday the 6th. I’ll continue pushing.

So far I’ve swam 12/20 kms. See photos for STRAVA times

Injury 26/3

Monday 1st Apr
Unfortunately as a result of my trail run at Bare Creek I strained a muscle in my foot and have not been able to run. Physio has recommended I wait a few weeks to the point where I can jog on it without pain.

Given there is 1 month left of my fundraiser I’ll be swimming 20 km instead of running.

24/3 Bare Creek Trail Run Race

Sunday 24th Mar
Managed to finish a 12 km trail run race today to bring my total to 135 kms.

Definitely a challenging run on the wet rocky terrain. But it was worth the challenge

Next up, half marathon trail!

Lets go ! 🏃🔥

13th of March

Wednesday 13th Mar
Unfortunately missed out on running a trail in the Eastern suburbs. I was able to get a solid run in castle cove along the trails by the water. It was severely overgrown and a big challenge. Upon moving into our new office I also got a nice flat run by the water at Barangaroo done. Close to 100 kms, let’s get it! 🏃

9th March

Saturday 9th Mar
79.8 / 150 kms

Planning a decent run tomorrow. It’s been a busy week with Run Club, Tunks Trail and tomorrow hopefully a trail in the eastern Suburbs. The fatigue is setting in!

Week 3 Update

I was very sore after an 8.9 km run of Narrabeen Lagoon Trail on Sunday. Will be taking a day or two off to “rest” (focus on AFL training and gym).

Narrabeen was a beautiful solo run. Very reflective and amazing natural terrain. Would highly recommend to any runners. My best advice is take it easy as it seems longer than it is. Being able to see where you started is also a tease!

20th Feb

Tuesday 20th Feb
35.2 / 100 kms so far!

Trying to keep all the running times on Strava. Unfortunately lost a portion of my run at Tunks Park due to my phone running out of battery (this was not included).

I’m still sober and loving it! Being the designated driver on nights out is rewarding and it’s a fun spectator sport 😅 pictures of runs and Strava times will be uploaded shortly !

10th Feb

Saturday 10th Feb
So far two moderately sized runs complete. It’s been refreshing being able to run in a group and by myself and getting the best of both worlds!

12.3 kms out of 100 km
With more to go through tomorrow!

Day 1

Wednesday 7th Feb
Today I ran Two Creeks Track a loop from my place in Roseville around the Roseville Bridge. Very damp and rocky terrain with moderate elevation. For pace and statistics comparisons please see @walkiesisrunnin on Instagram or https://www.strava.com/athletes/130976819

6.1 km / 100 km
