Mental illness doesn’t discriminate – it affects 1 in 5 Australians every year with symptoms like depression and anxiety. The impact can be devastating, not only for those living with it, but for those around them.
That’s why I’m walking from Sorrento to Sydney – to reach out to those doing it tough, and to raise crucial funds for the Black Dog Institute, supporting mental health research and services.
For most of my life, I’ve struggled with my mental health. Over the past year, my physical and emotional well-being hit a low I’d hoped I’d never see again. There were days when just getting out of bed felt impossible.
This walk is a challenge for myself, a reminder that I can keep going. But it’s also for others like me – for the people feeling stuck, alone, and overwhelmed. And it’s for my dad, who took his own life when I was 21. I miss him every day. I don’t want more sons, brothers, fathers, and friends to be lost.
Together, I hope we can raise awareness, spark conversations, and fund research and support services that save lives.
