We are standing up to join Team Black Dog to turn ground breaking research into life saving action.
In September 2021 we will be climbing the tallest peak in the contiguous USA (the tallest peak excluding Alaska and Hawaii) Mt. Whitney. This is a challenging two-day hike which takes us to an altitude of 14,500 feet or 4420 meters, that's almost double the height of Australia's tallest peak, Mt. Kosciuszko. You can follow our training, preparation and the Mt. Whitney summit itself on our YouTube channel - Fair Dinkum Hiking.
Each year a limited amount of permits are granted for people to summit this iconic peak. This year we have been lucky to win a permit in the annual lottery! We have decided to use this opportunity to bring awareness to mental illness and raise money for the Black Dog Institute. Both Simmo and Luke have had their own battles with the black dog in the past and hiking has been a great form of treatment.
Mental illness affects 1 in 5 Australians every year, with the most common being depression and anxiety. Mental illness doesn’t discriminate. It affects people from all walks of life — individuals, families, workplaces and communities.
