Help me make it meaningful
Between the 16th and 25th April 2023, myself and members of my family (sister and two eldest sons) will undertake the trek of a lifetime as we hike 124km through the Owen Stanley Ranges in Papua Niugini, following the trail on which our diggers fought the Japanese in World War II. Commencing at Kokoda in the north and hiking south to Ower’s Corner, our journey will take us to an elevation of 2500m and will nearly involve 10,000m of climbs and descents.
I’d like to use our experience to raise awareness of mental illness issues prevalent across Australia, and to raise funds to support the Black Dog Institute as they continue their valuable research in this area.
I’d also like to dedicate our trek to an amazing human and great friend who himself, through endeavours on both foot and bike, had personally raised over $100,000 in support of the Black Dog Institute over the last decade. Mark Heanly was tragically taken from us way too early late last year after suffering a freak cycling accident. He was preparing for yet another Black Dog fund-raising event.
I know that we are all doing it a bit tough at the moment, but Mental Illness doesn’t discriminate – it affects 1 in 5 Australians every year with symptoms such as depression and anxiety. The impact can be devastating, not only for those living with it, but for those around them.
That’s why I’m getting active and raising funds for the Black Dog Institute - to support crucial mental health research and support services that help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.
Help me create a meaningful moment for mental health as I work up a sweat and push through the pain on the Kokoda Trail, all for a great cause.
