Join our year-long mental health movement
On behalf of the Coogee Run Club, I am so incredibly proud to announce our chosen charity partner for 2025 - the legendary Black Dog Institute.
As a medical research institute that aims to make a positive change in mental health research and education, we couldn’t be more thrilled to support such an incredible cause, and one that is very close to our hearts.
Sadly, one in five Aussies will experience symptoms of mental illness in any given year. That’s around five million of us across the country and roughly 60% won’t seek help.
As a social run club, we understand the power and potential running as a community has on our mental health. According to our survey from Mental Health Month last October, 86% per cent of respondents said running improves their mood while 89% said their mental health had gotten better since joining the club. We know that healthier and happier heads start here.
For the past two years, we've backed the Black Dog Institute during our City2Surf campaigns. Now it’s time to pledge a year’s worth of support for those that are changing the face of mental health, and we commit to raising awareness and funds over the next 12 months.
During the year, this will see us put out the rallying call for donations with giveaways on offer, while we lace up, cover the kays and challenge not just our bodies but our minds as well, and work side-by-side to create happier heads within our Coogee community and beyond.

As runners, we know how powerful movement can be for the mind🏃♀️💛 When RCVRI generously gifted us a Precovery Session ahead of the TCS Sydney Marathon, we wanted to use it for more than just race prep — we wanted it to make a difference. So we turned that session into an opportunity to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute, supporting vital research, education, and programs that help people facing mental health challenges. Running helps clear the head, but it’s organisations like Black Dog that help heal the heart. This donation represents the final contribution from the Coogee Run Club for 2025 and brings our total raised for the Black Dog Institute this year to over $5,000. The funds were raised at our Coogee Run Club Christmas party in early December, where members eagerly took part in a raffle, with all proceeds donated to the Black Dog Institute. We are so proud of our members — their generosity, spirit, and heart were truly inspiring, and a reminder of what we can achieve when we come together. The Black Dog Institute has been our charity partner throughout 2025, and we’re incredibly proud of what our members have accomplished as a team.
