Help me make it meaningful
In honour of Francis Michael Platt who lost his life to mental health 25 years ago this October the 17th,
I never got the chance to know my Pop, but his absence has always been felt. I have always wondered what life would have been like if he was still here and i know most of my family think that too.
As much as this is all about Pop it’s also something to spread awareness so that it can prevent other families from this heart
ache.
This mullet was grown for fun but now, my uncle and i will be cutting ours off this October in his honour. As a way of letting go of silence, stigma, and shame. As a sign that we’re moving forward, having the conversations he couldn’t have, and showing others that it’s okay to speak up.
To anyone out there struggling: you are not alone. And to those we’ve lost, you are not forgotten.
That’s why we are making a change and raising funds through Mullets for Mental Health for the Black Dog Institute. Every dollar raised will support crucial mental health research and support services that help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide and can support someone in need and maybe save a life.
