Why Walk ? Team MaD
One of my dearest friends Darlene signed me up for the 21km walk and Team MaD.....MaD standing for Mel and Darlene.
We both feel passionate about breaking down the stigma of Mental Health and opening up conversation to help others struggling with Mental Health issues.
I have personally lived with Mental Health since I was 21 when I was diagnosed with Depression. I have since been given other diagnosises and have lived this journey for 26 years.
Mental Health can affect anyone. I recently gave a presentation on my recent mental health journey to 150 people and whilst it was confronting it was also very rewarding. Conversations opened up and people were able to share. Sharing is not an easy thing to do but by speaking out people can save lives.
We hope you will join us by way of donation or by lacing up your shoes and walking 21km with us! We look forward to supporting the Black Dog Institute to continue their work through education and awareness.
Team MaD together we can make a difference
Let's do this !
PS. This pic was taken on our first "meeting" taking time to be present and enjoy the early morning sunrise, morning walks or runs are great for Mental Health !
Help me create a mentally healthier world
On the 12th October this year, I’m lacing up my walking shoes and taking on a half marathon for the Black Dog Institute
I’m raising funds to help change these statistics:
- 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year
- 65% of those do not seek help
- Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15-45
The leading cause of death! That’s unbelievable and it needs to change.
Together, we can remove the stigma around mental illness and create a mentally healthier world. Please donate today!
