I'm standing up to join Team Black Dog to turn ground breaking research into life saving action.
Mental illness affects 1 in 5 Australians every year, with the most common being depression and anxiety. Mental illness doesn’t discriminate. It affects people from all walks of life — individuals, families, workplaces and communities. I know how this can cripple your life, I’ve been there.
I’m committed to painting 100 murals around Australia, during one big van journey with my little family. I will start conversations around mental health wherever I go and I will brighten up people’s lives with my colourful art.
I started supporting Black Dog well after starting the 100 murals so I hope to still achieve the 10k goal with your support. I am personally donating $100 for every client that will commission me a custom mural for the remaining part of this journey.
Why Black Dog? They’re the only medical research institute in Australia that investigates mental health across the lifespan, sharing valuable insights and educational resources. The money gets used to run research, educational programs, create digital tools and apps, offer clinical services and public resources to discover new solutions, foster connections and really make a change.
I personally heard of them for the first time when I’ve been asked to participate in a Black Dog Ride in Brisbane, back in 2012. These rides are popular in many cities and towns around the country. The second time I looked into Black Dog was when I was the office manager of a large IT office. I desperately wanted good quality information to host a mental health week events at work and to be better equipped to support my co-workers.
Why 100 murals? It can be seen as a “marathon” in my industry, a challenge for a creative mind and hard work for the body. I’m aiming to average a mural a week or so until the 100th wall is painted, and to bring a lot of colour into many people lives.
I'm currently at 63/100, the whole recap will be available in a book I'm creating to commemorate this adventure and the story behind each special masterpiece I create.
