Help me make it meaningful

Mental illness doesn’t discriminate – it affects 1 in 5 Australians every year with symptoms like depression and anxiety. The impact can be devastating, not only for those living with it, but for those around them.

That’s why I’m getting active and raising funds for the Black Dog Institute - to support crucial mental health research and support services that help Australians impacted by mental illness and suicide.

Help me create a meaningful moment for mental health as I work up a sweat, all for a great cause.

Please donate now. Thank you.

Ironman Texas
Ironman Texas — done and dusted!
This is such an amazing sport that continuously teaches you about resilience, adapting, and refocusing. This race didn’t go exactly to plan, but in the end, I had an incredible day, even while struggling to run properly. I connected with spectators and volunteers along the course, and it made the experience so much more fun.

Most importantly, thank you all for your support — and an extra thank you to those who donated to the Black Dog Institute. Your generosity goes towards such a worthy cause, and I’m truly grateful.

Road to IM Texas & Supporting Black Dog Institute – 7 Weeks to Go

The big training volume continues! This week, I’ve banked 41 km of running, 284 km of cycling, and 8.1 km of swimming—feeling strong and heading toward my best.

But more importantly, I want to remind you about the fundraiser I’m doing to support mental health. Let’s take a moment to think of those battling their demons and make a small donation to a cause that impacts us all.

To my international friends—yes, your credit cards work too! 😉

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far. If you’d like to contribute, please click the link below. Every little bit helps, no matter how small.

9 weeks to go

Sunday 23rd Feb
The big training volume continues! This week, I logged 40 km running, 240 km cycling, and 6.2 km swimming. I’m still managing a niggle, but I’m hopeful that a new strength program will aid recovery.

I also want to remind you about the important fundraiser I’m doing to support mental health.

This week, I experienced profound grief after saying goodbye to my longtime companion, Luna, our beloved Staffy. Losing her was incredibly hard, but I was fortunate to have family and friends to support me through it. It was a powerful reminder that many people don’t have that kind of support and can easily spiral into a dark place.

Let’s think of those struggling with their mental health and consider making a small donation to a cause that impacts us all. Every little bit helps, no matter the amount. And for my international friends—yes, your credit cards work too!

A huge thank you to everyone who has already donated. If you’d like to contribute, please click the link below. Your support truly makes a  difference

Thank you for your kindness and support.

10 weeks to go

Saturday 15th Feb

This event is approaching fast, and I am now in the final push of my training with big volume, lots of eating, and plenty of sleep.

I also want to remind you about the important fundraiser I am running to support mental health. Even a minor injury that disrupts my routine has given me a small glimpse into how setbacks can affect mood and overall outlook. Its a powerful reminder of the struggles so many people face every day.A huge thank you to everyone who has already donated. Your support truly makes a difference.

Australia Day

Sunday 26th Jan

Here’s your revised and polished version:

Road to IM Texas and Supporting Red Dog Institute

Happy Australia Day!

I’m back to remind you about the important fundraiser I’m doing to support mental health. This past week has been a solid training effort, capped off with a 130km bike ride and a 2.3km swim on Saturday, followed by a 21km run on Sunday.

I’m still working through a hamstring injury—while painful, it’s not stopping me from pushing forward.

On this Australia Day, let’s take a moment to appreciate how fortunate we are to live in such a safe and diverse community. In the spirit of giving back, I’d love your support for a cause that touches us all. To my international friends: yes, your credit cards work too!

Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated. If you’d like to contribute, click the link below. Every little bit helps

Good week

Sunday 19th Jan
A big week of training despite still struggling with an hamstring/ glute strain.  It hurts like hell when I run but I managed to finish all requirements in my running plan.  Less than a 100 days to Ironman Texas so onwards and upwards. I will be having a hit out at the tweed enduro which is a half Ironman distance in three weeks time.  That will give ma a good idea on where I am for my Texas preparation.

Back to normal

Sunday 29th Dec
My calf seems to have settled and I had a solid weeks training despite Christmas festivities.  A solid weekend with a 120km ride on Saturday and a 20km run followed by a light gym session on Sunday.  It was extremely humid this morning but no dehydration or cramping so forward we go.

Good weekend

Monday 23rd Dec
Had a solid 5:30 ride on Saturday followed by a short swim. Sundays run was pain free and no niggles so things are improving on the calf front although I have not done any speed work. Another week of no speed in the running and then we’ll see how it goes.  Onwards and upwards.

Set back

Sunday 15th Dec
Had a setback today. 16 km into my run developed a calf strain. Stoppped my run which makes me feel like I failed ( I hate not completing a training session.) should be ok, I iced and rested the Calf all day.   Anyway rest day tomorrow and then back to it again on Tuesday.  Thank you to all who have donated to the black dog foundation.

Weekends are made for volume

Saturday 14th Dec
So today had a 3hr40 ride (120km) to be followed by a 28km run and a 2.2km swim tomorrow.  Weekend are when I do my long rides and runs. This is the routine for the next 19 weeks up to Ironman Texas.  I am very fortunate to be able to take on this challenge and would like to help research into mental health and to help those that need it most.

Journey has begun

Wednesday 11th Dec
My journey to Ironman Texas 2025 has begun with training volume starting to increase.
In about 19 weeks time I will embark on a 3.8 km swim, 180km bike ride and the a 42 km run to finish it off.  This will be the day before my 60th birthday. I am privileged and grateful  to be able to participate in this event at my age and hope to make a difference by rasing funds for the black dog institute.
